*Pull Lists, ahhh pull lists.
-Pull Lists and Hold boxes! Pull lists are the list of comics you want pulled for you each month, your hold box is where they are kept. Here are the rules:
1) We expect the contents of your hold box to be cleared every 5 weeks. Products in your hold box that have been there longer than 5 weeks will be rotated back into the store inventory. If circumstances arise where you need longer than that to pick up your recent titles all you have to do is tell us. If you are one of our established patrons we are very generous when about this, but we do expect the products in your hold box to be picked up if we hold them for you. Please keep in mind, there are a great many of you and space is not limitless.
2) We will be happy to hold Trade PaperBacks (tpb) and back issues for you for 2 weeks. In the case of most TPB's and hardcover collections, we can reorder if we sell out , so chances are if it isn't here one day it will be in the next few. In the case of older back issues, well, it's not like we can order them and the only way to be fair to everyone whose looking to fill in gaps in collections is to limit the time these books spend in the hold area.
3) If you find you no longer need a pull list and hold box, please, don't fret about it, just tell us! We have a very low turn over rate for a comic shop and most of our cancelations are due to people moving or financial changes in life (marriage, baby on the way, paying off a blackmailer for those negatives of that thing....yes we know about that thing, etc...) so know that we understand and will welcome you back with open arms when you return. Just let us know!
4) We will honor requests for multiple copies or alternate colors, provided everyone on the pull list for that comic has recieved at least one issue. It's seldom the case that we can not provide two copies of a book, but does happen sometimes due to our complete orders not being fulfilled or damages in shipping or UPS playing "hide the box" or "hackey sack" with our order.
5) Finally, always check your box. Just because you walk in on a Wednesday before we pull doesn't mena there isn't anything in there for you, so please help us out by asking us to check! There might be something you missed!
*Variant Covers and Specialty Stuff
-Alrighty then... Variants are special comics usually offered by the Comic Companies to incite larger orders for certain titles. For instance, if I order 50 copies of Amazing Spider-Man #999 I will recieve one variant cover for those 50. If I order 100 copies, I'll get 2 variant covers, etc. This is why variant covers cost more. We try to be very fair on who gets these and how we price them.
Having said that, here's how you get your name down for a variant issue of something:
1) Have your pull list with us for at least three months and have been picking it up regularly before the variant is due out.
2) As soon as you are aware that there will be a variant you want, contact us (we prefer email because it is time stamped, but you can call us) immediately! We will put your name down in the order in which it is recieved so long as you meet the criteria for rule #1. We then fill the list accordingly. So, if you are the second person to have requested that Amazing Spidey variant, and we recieve two...you get to buy it! Yay, you! We knew you could do it.
3) Never assume we just know you want that variant. Always notify. Jason ain't the Amazing Kreskin, y'know.
*Special Orders, Shipping, Receiving, you buying...
-This is always fun. Our ability to get you what you need is directly dependant on the companies that manufacture, distribute, and ship to us. Keep that in mind at all times. Having said that, we do pretty darned well with ordering you items and books that are currently available and in print as well as having a good deal of success with back issues and collectables that are no longer available (though those do sometimes take a great deal of time).
1)All you need to do is email us or call us and tell us what you want and we will start the process.
2) If you don't see it in the store, ask- it usually is here a few days later.
The bad part of this is that sometimes, products are canceled, delayed, destroyed and unavailable, or allocation (which means that order for the product exceeded the number manufactured so we will be lucky to get a small percent of our initial orders). We have no control over these things and are sure you understand on the few occasions this happens.
*Lay-a-way
-We do have a lay-a-way plan and here are the rules:
1) You must be an established customer with us for more than 6 months.
2) Lay-a-ways are only for products over $150.00.
3) A minimum of ten percent down is required for lay-a-ways. In some cases we will ask for more than that depending on the demand for the product. ALL DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE!
4) You have 45 days from the date of deposit to pick up your product. If it is not picked up inside of those 45 days- the product will be put back into store inventory and, again, your DEPOSIT IS NON_REFUNDABLE!
5) No more than three items in Lay-a-way at any one time per customer.
*Returned (or bounced) Check Policy
-Grrr. Hate this stuff. Okay the deal is that if you are signed up for a pull list/hold box we have all your information in our computer, so we never ask to see your ID if you are in our database because we've seen it and recorded it once. When this situation comes up, and it seldomly does, we contact you as soon as we recieve the returned check by phone leaving a message (if possible) if we are unable to reach you personally. When we contact you we expect arrangements to be made as soon as possible to correct this. We are also penalized by our bank for trying to process a bad check and as such, we have to charge you for that as well, $15.00 for every bad check.
-If we are unable to reach you by any other means, we have to send out a certified letter informing you of the situation and asking you to contact us ASAP to clear this up. If we have not heard from you within 10 days of the letter, or the letter is returned to us unsigned, we will have to turn the matter over to Vestavia Hills Police Department. If you have more than two items returned to us, we will no longer, at any time, accept checks from you and your discount rate on comics will be eliminated.
As I said, I hate this part of the job, so let's just not have it happen.
